In this holiday home, you'll get out of everyday life and get genuinely close to nature. Abundant birdlife and a private bird tower offer experiences for the nature observer. A fisherman can catch a perch or pike right next to the pier. Lomaluoto's sauna made from logs cherish with its sweet steam.

You can get to Lomaluoto by rowing boat (200m) or venoot (30m) to the end of the wooden trail and then about 300m long walking to the cottage. So you don't need your own boat to get to Lomaluoto. However, if you want to come with your own boat, you can do that too. Lomaluoto has a sturdy pier, to which even a larger boat can be fastened easily.

Welcome to the ÄRJÄ ARCTIC SWIM open water swimming event on Ärjänsaari, Lake Oulujärvi, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 1:00 PM.

A "low-threshold" open water swimming experience (2000m) will take place along the sandy beach of Ärjänsaari, located by the vast Ärjänselkä, the largest inland water basin in Finland.

Although all swimmers' times will be recorded, we want the event to be more of an experiential adventure in the stunning scenery of Ärjänsaari than a "race to the finish line." Thus, both the first and last swimmers will receive a commemorative prize from Ärjä and will participate in product prize raffles.

The first 100 participants who register for the ÄRJÄ ARCTIC SWIM open water swimming event will be accepted. Registration opens on December 1, 2025. It's possible to secure a spot from the waiting list in case of cancellations.

Our snowshoe trip starts with a snowmobile sleigh ride towards the fairytale island of Ärjänsaari, which is about 4km away.

Unforgettable Snow Shoe Trip to Ärjä Island

This open water swimming experience is approximately 10 km long and is designed for experienced swimmers. The route will circle the sandy beaches and high sand cliffs of Ärjä Island, located near the widest inland waters of Finland, the Ärjänselkä.

We want the open water swimming event to be a memorable experience in the stunning landscapes of Ärjä Island, and we will make stops (4) at various beaches around the island. Participants will have the option to board a safety boat at any point during the swim or take a ride for part of the distance. All open water swimmers will receive a commemorative award from Ärjä Island. The start and finish areas are located at Vierasniemi on Ärjä Island, which was once a vacation spot for the management and guests of the Kajaani Paper Factory.

ÄRJÄ ARCTIC LAKE SWIM CHALLENGE open water swim event will accept the first 20 participants to register, with registration starting on December 1st, 2025. There will also be backup spots available for cancellations.
Categories and Preliminary Schedule:

Group start from Vierasniemi, Ärjä Island on August 3rd, 2025, at 13:00.

At the first break, we will divide swimmers into two groups: one for those who wish to swim at a faster pace and one for those who prefer a more relaxed pace.

Welcome to ÄRJÄ ARCTIC TRAIL RUN trail running event on Suturday, August 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM on Ärjänsaari, located on Lake Oulujärvi.

This “low-threshold” trail running experience (approx. 10km) will take place along the sandy beaches of Ärjänsaari and the high cliffs, following the trails near the largest inland water basin in Finland, Ärjänselkä.

While all runners will be timed, we want the event to be more of an experiential journey through the beautiful landscapes of Ärjänsaari than a “blood, sweat, and tears” competitive race. Therefore, both the first and last runner will receive the same ÄRJÄ souvenir award and will participate in product prize draws.

The first 100 people to register for the ÄRJÄ ARCTIC TRAIL RUN event will be accepted. There may be spots available for backup runners if cancellations occur.

Unforgettable kayaking trip around the Ärjä Island.

How does our island of paradise look like when viewed from the lake? By kayaking you can see the island from a completely different perspective than when you usually do. The shores on one side are decorated with magnificent sandy beaches and on the other with beautiful rounded rocks.

We paddle around the Lake Oulujärvi Pearl under the safe guidance of a paddling instructor. Along the way we go ashore on the beach to enjoy a picnic and the total distance of this kayaking trip is about 10 km. The price of the tour does not include transport to the Ärjä Island.

Spend a summer day on Ärjänsaari-island, also known as a paradise island. Ärjä's magnificent sandy beaches, beautiful high sandy slopes and pine-covered landscape surrounded by beautiful Lake Oulujärvi are unforgettable experiences.

A summer day on Ärjänsaari-island is fast by hiking, looking for geocaches, running trails, swimming or just resting on the wonderful sandy beaches enjoying the sun. Sometimes you can visit the sheep of Ärjänsaari, which are on summer work on the island between 6.6-15.8.2022

Ärjänsaari is part of the Rokua Geopark ridge formation, which extends from Lieksa to Hailuoto.

Return transportation from Ärjänsaari leaves 5 hours after the start time. For example if the departure time is 10 am then the return transport will depart from Ärjä at 3 pm.

The length of the boat trip is about 4 km and is 5 -15 minutes depending on the weather conditions.

The summer café is open every day from 1 June to 15 August 2022 from 11 am to 4 pm. The café serves coffee, donuts, ice cream, soft drinks and sweets. You can also rent game equipment or, for example, a bicycle, kayak, sup-board or rowing boat from the café.

Well-Equipped Apartments built in 2020 cater perfectly to both travelers and athletes in the Vuokatti area. Located in a fantastic and central spot near the shores of Lake Särkinen, some apartments offer stunning lake views. Vuokatti Sport’s popular family-friendly gymnastics hall is located in the Pallohalli building. The gymnastics hall provides perfect setting for both family workout sessions and fun-filled birthday parties for kids!

The gymnastics hall is equipped with: a floor area (12m x 12m), a trampoline + foam pit, an Air Track + foam pit, rings, a balance beam, parallel bars, uneven bars, a high bar, and slacklines.

The hall can be reserved for private use at the following rates:
Mon-Fri from 8 AM to 3 PM – €25/hour
Other times – €38/hour
Note! During high season (weeks 42, 43, 52, 1, 8, 9, 10, and the Easter period), the price is €38/hour.
Reservations can be made by calling the reception or sales office. During holiday periods, we recommend booking well in advance to secure your preferred time for fun and exercise!

Please note when arriving for a self-guided session: Payment must be made at Vuokatti Sport Hotel reception (Opistontie 4) before the session begins. You will also receive the key upon payment. Before starting, you must sign a user agreement, which includes a commitment to follow the gymnastics hall rules and train at your own risk.

The gymnastics hall is located in a separate Pallohalli building next to the outdoor field, approximately a 100-meter walk from the reception.

Our main building features 34 Sport Resort hotel rooms located by the shore of Lake Särkinen. The Sport Resort rooms offer separate beds for two or three people, along with a refrigerator, drying cabinet, kettle, TV, shower/WC, and hairdryer. The rooms are non-smoking and allergy-friendly (pets are not allowed). Additionally, the rooms are equipped with wireless internet access.

SPORT RESORT ROOM – STANDARD
The hotel rooms have separate beds for two, a fridge, a television, a shower/WC, a hairdryer and a drying closet for outdoor clothes. The size of the rooms is 20 m². The location is on the shore of Lake Särkinen, in the immediate vicinity of the main building.

Join us on a snowmobile sledge ride through the enchanting winter forests and lake Nuas. Ride across the snowy landscape, we take time to observe nature.

Along the way, we explore the lives of Nordic wildlife, observing nature and search for tracks in the snow, and if we’re lucky, we might even follow them, gaining insight into the daily life of the animals that roam these forests.

If we’re lucky, we might spot tracks of a lynx, wolverine, fox, wolf, or hare. Even bears have wandered through this area, though in winter, they are fast asleep in their dens.

Remember that dressing warmly is extremely important for this trip, as the cold feels even more intense while sitting in the sleigh.

We will provide helmets. Please also bring a hat to wear during breaks. Make sure you have warm shoes and gloves to keep yourself comfortable throughout the journey.

Welcome to a Reindeer farm visit, winter excursion where we will experience snowy landscapes and the rich culture of Kainuu. Along the journey, we’ll learn about reindeer herding, the local history, and the lives of residents, both in the past and present. At the reindeer farm, we’ll observe reindeer feeding, take a ride through a snowy forest on a reindeer-pulled sleigh, and practice throwing a suopunki—a traditional lasso used to catch reindeer and a valuable tool for herders. The excursion is well-suited for both children and adults.

Departure from Vuokatti. We’ll pick you up from your accommodation. driving time about 1h 15 min.
The trip includes plenty of stories about local life, culture, and the experiences of people in the area. At the reindeer farm, activities include reindeer feeding, photography, a reindeer sleigh ride, and suopunki throwing. The suopunki is a reindeer herder’s lasso, similar to the one better known from the Wild West.

Ärjänsaari island, the island of countless stories, is a stunning location surrounded by steep sandbanks. The island is also known as the gem of Lake Oulujärvi.

On your way to Ärjänsaari island you can enjoy the open Lake Oulujärvi sceneries and listen to stories about the island’s history.

If it happens to be a warm summer day, there is nothing quite like digging your feet into the burning island sand. Our crew will tell stories of the history the ship and also all the passengers have a possibility to visit the ship's engine room where our engine master tells about the function of steam engine in practice.

Steamship Kouta is the northernmost steamship in Europe.

The ropes are let loose as the white-sided steamship slides across River Kajaaninjoki with its prow towards Lake Oulujärvi. Over 100-year-old steam engine under the deck, heated with care, chugs to a steady rhythm and moves the craft almost silently. Along River Kajaaninjoki,we pass by the landscape that inspired author Elias Lönnrot and poet Eino Leino and soon one of the biggest lakes in Finland opens up ahead of us. Steep sandbanks shimmer in the summer sun.

The ship has seats on the deck as well as inside the salon (under a roof), for up to 60 passengers. You do not need to worry about rain or wind and more often than not, the weather on Lake Oulujärvi is clear although it might be raining in the city. The steamship bar is fully licenced.

Let a local guide take you to visit her house in the middle of an area where the bears and many other wild animals are roaming!

The house is located 25 kilometers away from the center of Kuhmo, in middle of a forest where you can observe animal tracks, signs of the ice age and in the summertime berries and mushrooms. We will have a small walk in the area, or in the winter we can use skishoes. The walk is max. 4 kilometers.

After the walk we will head inside of the house, where we will enjoy some coffee/tea and snacks. The guide will tell you about interesting local lifestyle that connects traditions with modern technology. Perhaps you will learn why Finnish people are the happiest in the world!
