Dog-friendly routes

One of the most popular hiking trails during the snow-free season is the 7-kilometre-long Eino Leino Trail, an excellent day trip destination for a walk with your dog. The Eino Leino Trail takes hikers on a journey through the secrets of Vuokatinvaara, and the climb up the hill rewards travellers with breathtaking views of the lake-studded Vuokatti hills. If you’re travelling by car, it’s worth heading with your dog to Hiidenportti National Park, where the rugged gorge is one of the most remarkable natural sights in the entire region.

In the snow season, the area’s ice ski trails invite dog skiers to enjoy the landscape. In addition to the ice ski trails, dog skiing is permitted on the Hiukka illuminated ski trail on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., as well as on the Särkinen ice ski trail and Jäätiö ski and multipurpose trail.

Descriptions of these trails and ski tracks, along with many other dog-friendly locations, can be found in the trail search below.

Please remember that dogs must be kept on a leash on the trails, and it’s polite to pick up your dog’s poop both along the ski trails and in the immediate vicinity of walking paths. Also, keep in mind that while dogs are welcome at all rest and fire places, some of them are only accessible through skiing tracks during the snow season. If the skiing track isn’t allowing dogs, then dogs are not welcome to those rest and fire places during the snow season.
